Aperture Athens

This project reimagines a streetscape near a multi-use trail, creating a new, multi-use infill development that inspires community use. An elevated plaza connects to the trail, opening up space for social interaction and commercial uses. The centerpiece of the development is a new pedestrian bridge, providing a safe route for pedestrians over a busy street and creating a visual gateway into the city.

Evans County Community Center

A service-learning project, this design updates the outdoor space at a community center in a small rural town, providing them with much-needed infrastructure and amenities.

Working with the community via engagement meetings and small groups, we came up with a design that will help the center continue to offer programs and recreation for community members of all ages.

Project completed with Brooke Freeman and Elizabeth Swift.

 Corkscrew Commons

A fictional plaza in Athens drew inspiration from the redstem filaree (Erodium circutarium) seed, which has a helical shaped tail resembling a corkscrew. The design focused on creating usable space in this urban plaza, including a splash pad, lawn with landforms, a pier overlooking a pond, and cafe seating. Along the edges of the plaza, tall native grass meadows and evergreen screening plants create a sense of enclosure, demarcating the space as something outside of the norm.

Drawings done with ink and colored pencil, planting plan done in AutoCAD.
